Glass Casting with Gelflex

So I had to make another model in clay that could withstand the heat, this one isn't quite
as nice as the first one as the clay sets quite fast and is more difficult to work with.

Ready for the Gelflex to be poured in.

Here the  Gelflex has started to set, although it sets almost instantly it is still very hot as I found out when I put my finger down the side, and I burnt myself - clever!!

That's all for now, as I have to wait until next week to do the next part - which I'm not totally sure how to do, but by this time next week I'll know!!
It's taken an age to remove the clay from the Gelflex mould, but  thankfully it's done now,
So next I need to fill this with wax!
I melted the wax

and spooned it in to the Gelflex mould until it was full

very full, but it needs to be, as it makes it easier to remove it later  -  honest!!

Once the wax was completely cool I began nervously trying to remove it in one piece

This proved to be very difficult, due to the under cut

Almost free!!

Wax Poppy No.1 with clay dust all over it!
Wax Poppy No.2 - clean!!

some random wax poppy petals

The mix: 2 Flint, 2 Plaster, 2 Water, 1 Grog

Poured the plaster mix over the wax poppy & going to keep my fingers crossed
So at long last, here is the next step of my 'soon to be' glass poppy;
this is the plaster block with the wax still inside it
This is how I hope the wax will be removed  my heat steaming the wax out
Here you can see the wax beginning to slowly drip out
Here the large base section of wax has melted away
but think it's going to take a while for the seam to reach the petals
.......just have to wait for the next gripping installment!!
Woohoo!! The wax has finally melted away!!
All clear and ready to be dried out before filling with glass!!

Filled the mould
The pot on the top of the mould ensures the
glass follows into the mould

In the kiln it goes - fingers crossed!!
