Introducing Burt Owl

This is little Burt Owl he's sat on my desk for ages and he's made out of plastercine

As I didn't want to mess about too much, I've added a block of clay to the back of him

I've sprayed him with WD40 so he will release from the plaster mould easily, and then
poured the plaster over the top of him

Once the plaster is dry then the fun begins

First removing the clay from the back

and then the pastercine

Here you can see the tree has gone and now just need to free Burt
You can see the leaves clearly

and here is Burt - very pleased with him !!
Next I dabbed a tiny amount of PVA glue into the leaf impressions
so I could carefully sprinkle some pine green powder frit into them, so it would not move
when I added the rest of the glass frits
Then I used the glue to make sure Burt's beak would stay in the right place too
Next I added two tones of brown frit, (although you can only see the carnelian frit
here, there really is senna frit in the tree trunk section, underneath the top layer of frit)
-But I forgot to take a pic of them that way!

Burt Owl finally out of the kiln still in the mould

carefully removing the plaster

Almost out
Welcome Burt Owl to the world -still needs a clean though!!
Burt looking cleaner but still in need of cold working and a polish
